Why we love Vilac
The vintage toy cars are the ones that stop people in their tracks. Those classic shapes and bold colours look like they've driven straight out of a 1960s racing poster, and they're just as beautiful on a shelf as they are being pushed across the floor. Our favourite is the Vintage Metal Ride-On Car, a proper little car with a painted metal body, steering and quiet rubber wheels, and the kind of present that ends up in the family photos for years.
Vilac's story began in 1911, when Narcisse Villet opened a small wood-turning workshop in Moirans-en-Montagne, a village in the Jura mountains that has been the heart of French toymaking for generations. More than a hundred years on, Vilac still makes toys with the same eye for simple shapes, bright colours and lovely finishes. In France it's recognised as a "Living Heritage Company" for keeping those skills alive. Vilac toys are made to be played with hard, then kept and handed down.
